EUROPEAN MUSIC FESTIVAL 2010 - famous stars and anniversaries of great composers
EUROPEAN MUSIC FESTIVAL 2010 - famous stars and anniversaries of great composers
PIANO SUPERSTAR RICHARD CLAYDERMAN WILL BE PERFORMING AT THE 2010 EUROPEAN MUSIC FESTIVAL. After his amazing concert in Sofia in 2008, the world-famous French pianist will delight fans once again with his romantic ballads and inimitable style on 14 April 2010.

In its tenth year now, the European Music Festival organized by Cantus Firmus is Bulgaria’s leading classical music event in spring. Every year, the festival features renowned international and Bulgarian musicians in concerts  in Sofia, Varna and Plovdiv.
Along with Richard Clayderman, this year’s festival highlights include the celebration of several significant anniversaries in music history. The prestigious forum will open in Sofia on 25 March with a performance of Johann Sebastian Bach’s St Matthew Passion in celebration of the composer’s 325th birth anniversary. The soloists in this emblematic work by the Baroque master will be Tina Scherer, Jale Papila, Markus Herzog, Jorg Hempel and Thomas Hamberger, all from Germany.
Chopin’s music is another highlight of the festival. The year of the great Polish Romantic composer will be celebrated with two recitals by pianist Ludmil Angelov.
On 27 March, World Theatre Day, Ballet Arabesque will present two one-act ballets: Don Juan based on Mozart’s opera Don Giovanni; and Duality, based on music by Astor Piazzolla.
As part of the festival, legendary British pop/jazz group Matt Bianco, which will be playing in Bulgaria for the first time ever, will present their latest album, the Latino-inspired HiFi Bossanova, at Sofia’s National Palace of Culture (NDK) on 16 April. Two chamber ensembles, the Chantily Wind Quintet from Germany and the Bohemia Trio from the Czech Republic, will add diversity to the programme.
The 2010 European Music Festival will end with a concert by violinist Mila Georgieva and the Classic FM M-Tel Orchestra, featuring one of the greatest nineteenth-century masterpieces for violin, Tchaikovsky’s Violin Concerto.
Tickets for  the European Music Festival will be available from 18 February 2010.
