Prominent Spanish Violinist Invited to Perform in The Concertmasters Series

Leticia Moreno, acclaimed by critics as “Martha Argerich of the violin” is to perform with the Classic FM Radio Orchestra for their 2015-2016 season opening concert

16 June, Sofia
Exuberant Spanish violinist Leticia Moreno is to perform as soloist in Bulgaria this fall in The Concertmasters concert series, presented by music company Cantus Firmus. On October 16, 2015, she will be joining the Classic FM Radio Orchestra and conductor Luciano di Martino at Bulgaria Hall. This is the orchestra’s 2015-2016 season opening concert. Tickets are available through the end of August only at TICKETSBG, and starting September 1 they will be on sale at the Cantus Firmus box-office at Bulgaria Hall. The Concertmasters concert series project is financed by the 2015 Sofia Municipality Cultural Program. Leticia Moreno’s concert is generously supported by the Embassy of Spain in Bulgaria, as well as the Cervantes Institute in Sofia, and is organized in collaboration with the AC/E Spanish Cultural Internationalization Program. The Acción Cultural Española is a public organization, which aims to popularize Spain’s cultural heritage through exhibitions, conferences, lectures, films, concerts, and various other audio-visual presentations.
This is Leticia Moreno’s second visit to Bulgaria. In 2008, she made her dashing Sofia debut, also in The Concertmasters series. Over the past seven years, her solo career has accelerated tremendously, and in 2012 she was honoured with the ECHO Rising Star Award. Born in 1985 in Madrid, Ms. Moreno is a student of legendary pedagogue Zakhar Bron, and has also studied with Maxim Vengerov and David Takeno at the Guildhall School in London. She has also participated in Mstislav Rostropovich’s masterclasses.
“Martha Argerich of the violin” is how critics described the young Spanish violinst after her rendition of the Shostakovich Concerto, Op. 99. “She possessed the agility of a flamenco dancer, the strength of character of an Andalusian singer and the penetrating gaze of an Almodovar heroine,” wrote Le Figaro Magazine in 2014. Some of Ms. Moreno’s most recent appearances have included concerts with conductors Andrey Borenko, Andrés Orozco-Estrada, and Zubin Mehta. She has also performed with famed stars on the conductor’s podium, Gustavo Dudamel and Valery Gergiev. Upcoming engagements include a tour in China with conductor Esa-Pekka Salonen and the Mahler Chamber Orchestra. Recently, Ms. Moreno completed an extensive concert tour in Italy, Russia, and the UK with conductor Yuri Temirkanov and the St Petersburg Philharmonic. With this orchestra, the Spanish soloist created her first album with music by Shostakovich, which was released by the prestigious Deutsche Grammophon label in November, 2014.
In March 2015, Leticia Moreno made her US debut, where she performed as soloist with the National Symphony Orchestra under the direction of Christoph Eschenbach.
