The Classic FM Radio Orchestra (Sofia, Bulgaria) was founded in 2002. The orchestra’s dazzling performances include world-renown soloists, such as Nigel Kennedy (2005, 2007), Pinchas Zukerman (2006, 2008), Shlomo Mintz (2007, 2011, 2012) Midori (2011), Glenn Dicterow (2011), Maxim Vengerov (2006), Stefan Milenkovich (2009), Anton Barachovsky (2011), Pepe Romero (2007), Los Romeros (2010), Vanessa Mae (2007), Jan Andersson (2007), Richard Clayderman (2008, 2010, 2011), Italian rock group POOH (2011) and others. The orchestra has appeared regularly at the March Music Days International Festival in Rousse, the Varna Summer International Festival, and the European Music Festival in Sofia. It toured in Spain with solo violinist Vasko Vassilev (Concertmaster of The Royal Opera House in London’s Covent Garden), and has participated in the Oberstdorf Summer Music Festival in Germany. The Classic FM Radio Orchestra accompanied Bulgarian President Georgi Parvanov on his official visits to Denmark and Norway, performing before both the Danish and the Norwegian royal couples, respectively in Copenhagen and Oslo.
An important site of the orchestra’s work is The Music of America concert cycle. It presents leading artists from the U.S. music scene, who perform for the first time in Bulgaria like Midori, Glenn Dicterow, John Mclaughlin Williams. The Classic FM Radio Orchestra is three-time winner of the Crystal Lyre award. The 2011-2012 concert season marked Classic FM Radio Orchestra’s 10th anniversary. The orchestra was invited to perform along with world-renown Bulgarian violinist Vesko Panteleev-Eschkenazy (Concertmaster of The Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra in Amsterdam) as part of the official program of the Bureau of the European People’s Party (EPP) Group meeting in Bulgaria. In 2011, the Classic FM Radio Orchestra accompanied an official Bulgarian delegation in France, performing a concert at the Turenne Hall of the “Les Invalides” complex in Paris. Audience members included representatives of the Diplomatic Corps, as well as high-ranking French Administration officials. The Classic FM Orchestra is four-time winner of the Crystal Lyre award. In the last concert seasons the Classic FM Radio Orchestra performed concerts with world famous musicians Pinchas Zukerman, Amanda Forsyth, Vadim Gluzman, Ennio Morricone, Andrea Bocelli, Joshua Bell and others.
