The Russian Philharmonic and Clayderman To Be Part of EMF

Cantus Firmus and Classic FM Radio are presenting the 13th edition of the European Music Festival, which is part of the cultural events calendar of the Municipality of Sofia and is taking place under the auspices of Mrs. Jordanka Fandakova, Mayor of Sofia. It is the festival’s tradition to present famous artists not only from Europe, but also from all over the world. The festival will host more than 500 participants from 10 countries. There are 16 events, which will enrich the music life in the city of Sofia from the end of February through June 13. For the first time in Sofia , as part of the festival we will hear The Moscow City Symphony Russian Philharmonic. This elite 80-member ensemble will perform under the baton of Dmitry Jurowsky, with prominent Bulgarian pianist Plamena Mangova as soloist. Other festival highlights include the Lutosławski Quartet (Poland), American trumpet player Rex Richardson, rising violin star Elin Kolev as soloist of the Classic FM Radio Orchestra (part of the Concertmasters series), the Harvard-Westlake Chamber Singers & Wolverine Chorus, and jazz trio Solea (Germany). Richard Clayderman has once again chosen the European Music Festival to present yet another concert in Bulgaria. The famous French pianist will perform on April 5 at the National Palace of Culture, Hall One. EMF will also celebrate conductor Prof. Emil Yanev’s 80th anniversary with a concert of the Sofia Youth Philharmonic and famous Bulgarian violinist Mila Georgieva as soloist. In Easter week, in the Aula of Sofia University we will hear J. S. Bach’s Matthäus Passion performed by prominent Austrian tenor Virgil Hartinger. The festival’s program will also include a solo recital with music by Polish composers, featuring pianist Ludmil Angelov.
