11-th edition of The Concertmasters Series

Classic FM Radio Orchestra Invites Top Violinists Vesko Panteleev-Eschkenazy and Svetlin Roussev

28 August 2013, Sofia
The Cantus Firmus Music Agency is pleased to announce the 2013-2014 season of The Concertmasters series. This is the 11th edition of the concert series with which the Classic FM Radio Orchestra began its career. This season offers three concerts at the Bulgaria Hall in Sofia between November 2013 and April 2014. The Concertmasters series is partially supported by the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Bulgaria.
The series opens on 15 November 2013 with an anniversary concert of legendary Bulgarian composer Boris Karadimchev, the person who wrote two of the best Bulgarian pop songs of all time, “Hora i ulitsi” (People and Streets) and “Byala tishina” (White Silence). These and other of his greatest hits will be performed by a star-studded cast of Bulgarian pop singers, actors and classical musicians in honour of the composer’s 80th anniversary. The classical musicians who will pay tribute to Mr. Karadimchev are violinist Angel Stankov and pianist Georgi Cherkin.
One of the favourite Concertmasters of the orchestra and the audience, Vesko Panteleev-Eschkenazy, is included in this season’s programme. On 12 March 2014, he will perform Edouard Lalo’s Symphonie espagnole with conductor Luciano Di Martino. The charismatic musician will also present a talented young violinist, Slava Atanasova, an eleventh-grade student at the Lyubomir Pipkov National School of Music in Sofia, who won the Special Prize of Cantus Firmus at the Young Virtuosos International Competition in April 2013.
The third concert in the series features Svetlin Roussev, who will present Nicolò Paganini’s brilliant Second Violin Concerto (“La Campanella”). The concert, on 1 April 2014, will be conducted by Grigor Palikarov.
Launched in 2002, The Concertmasters series has featured the likes of Nigel Kennedy, Pinchas Zukerman, Maxim Vengerov, Shlomo Mintz, Richard Clayderman, and Pepe Romero. After a one-year break in 2011, the concert series was resumed thanks to support from the Sofia Municipality’s Culture Programme. It was in The Concertmasters series that 16-year-old Bulgarian-born violinist Elin Kolev made his enormously successful Bulgarian debut in May 2013.
Season tickets for The Concertmasters series are on sale at the Cantus Firmus box office in the Bulgaria Hall as of 2 September 2013 (Monday). The box office is open Monday to Friday, 9:30-13:30; 15:00-19:00. Tickets can also be purchased online at www.ticketsbg.com
